When considering changing your traditional timber sash windows why not look at our white woodgrain uPVC window? This is for people who say they “definitely don’t want uPVC”, but also don’t want to pay the cost of replacement hardwood timber windows.
This gives you the best of both worlds as they look like timber but are made from uPVC with a white woodgrain foil coating. They can have welded or mechanical joints depending on your preference.
White woodgrain uPVC sash windows are maintenance-free and come A-rated thermally as standard.
We will also replace the internal architrave to match the windows in white woodgrain and make good any plaster damage ready for redecoration.
Typically the cost of a white woodgrain sliding sash window is around 60% to 65% of the same window in traditional hardwood.
You can, of course, have the same sliding sash in normal pvc-u as opposed to the white woodgrain option, if you prefer. This will typically save you around £100 per window.

A sliding sash windows consists of two opening sashes that slide over one another.
The top sash slides over the bottom sash and stays in place with either a traditional weights and pulley system or a spiral balance system.
Spiral balances utilize a spiral-shaped rod within a tube. This rod connects to a spring, which is what provides the tension for supporting the sash. The tension is adjusted by being wound to match the sash it is supporting.
As you are in a conservation area you will need to check this with your local authority. The chances are that you may have to use timber sliding sash replacements, which we can also provide.

Firstly, we will be installing new double glazed sliding sash windows that are no longer drafty, which is going to make a huge improvement. Secondly, you can consider installing 6.4mm or 6.8mm stadip laminate acoustic glass on one of the two panes of glass, the other being 4mm. This will improve the acoustic impedance by a further 10% to 15%.

We can reproduce your georgian bars using astragal bars which consist of duplex bars in between the glass and plant on bars on the inside of the inside pane and the outside of the outside pane. This creates the illusion of separate panes, but in reality, they are not! You can have a full matrix or just vertical bars.

Window furniture comes in white, shiny chrome, satin chrome, gold and black. However, if you are going for white woodgrain we recommend not using the white furniture, as the white woodgrain finish is more creamy than the white furniture. For normal white pvc-u sliding sash windows, the white furniture is a good choice!
