With our aluminium stepped look steel replacement window range we have 3 product options.
All of these products are designed with a stepped look profile, to replicate a stepped look detail on your original steel windows.
Firstly, the Royale Stepped look window, which is one of the slimmest thermally broken windows on the market at just 33mm, with krypton gas filled units and is B-rated.
Secondly, we have the heritage stepped look window at 47mm depth which is C-rated and thirdly, the Beaufort stepped sash window which has a 58mm or 70mm depth and can be A or B-rated.
All of our 3 aluminium stepped look steel replacement window options have a stepped look profile to replicate an original stepped look steel window. Our stepped look steel replacement windows can have flat astragal bars to replace either an art deco style with just horizontal bars or a georgian bar matrix, or of course no astragal bars for the plain look or even lead lights.
All of these products have slim sight lines and are highly secure.
There is a large range of handle options including our authentic classic inline art deco handles and also one of our favourites, the flush chelton handle, both shown in gallery above.
We can advise you to help decide which of our 3 stepped look product options to choose, by showing you proper window samples for each option.
There are a number of factors to consider, eg whether you have timber subframes or if your windows are fitted direct to brick.

Living in a Grade 2 listed house built circa 1480, any replacement doors or windows had to meet the Council’s strict approval – in this case Royale aluminium French doors with flag windows, double glazed steel replacements. Both the You Choose Windows team and the builders met with the Council’s inspector on site, to reach an approved solution. I have no hesitation in recommending You Choose Windows to anyone contemplating similar work.

A massive thank you to you & your team for the work last week. The new windows look fantastic and I can see great care has been taken to refit the secondary glazing.

Just a quick email to say that we absolutely love our new windows! They look fantastic and we can already feel the difference in terms of heat and noise in the flat. Matt and his team made the whole installation process completely painless too. Many (many) thanks.
A O’Connor, London, SW4Choosing new aluminium stepped look steel replacement windows can be a tricky task so we have put together some popular FAQ, which you may find helpful.
This will depend on the profile of your original windows and of course your own personal preference. Please call to discuss.
You can keep them, if they are in good shape and we can install our stepped look windows within the timber subframes. The Royale stepped look is best suited to this application, or the heritage stepped look. However, if they are in very poor shape, then it is worth considering removing them and thus having a more maintenance-free solution. In this case the Beaufort 58mm or 70mm stepped sash product option may be best. Please call to discuss.
You do not have to from a design point of view, but there may be a planning constraint, for example if you are in a conservation area. You could also consider georgian bars at the front and plain at the back.
We can usually match the design of your old steel windows depending on how big the openers are. Our slim sight lines mean that they can be a very close match.
A thermal break is a non-conducting material (polyamide) that separates the inside from the outside of the frame. This improves the thermal characteristics of the window, compared to both an original steel window and a replacement double glazed steel window.
Aluminium windows are strong and can match the steel windows sight lines compared to say a pvc-u window which is much chunkier. They are much more thermally efficient than steel as they have a thermal break made from polyamide. They are also less expensive.
All things being equal they will have less condensation than steel windows, but condensation is caused by the relationship between temperature and relative humidity, so it is still possible to get some condensation depending on what happens inside your property. There are actions you can take to minimise condensation, which we can advise upon.
Firstly, we will be installing new double glazed casement windows that are no longer drafty, which is going to make a huge improvement. Secondly, if not using our Royale window, you can consider installing 6.4mm or 6.8mm stadip laminate acoustic glass on one of the two panes of glass, the other being 4mm. This will improve the acoustic impedance by a further 10% to 15%.
Our aluminium stepped look replacement steel windows come with shootbolt locking and key locking handles and many other security features as standard, so are very secure.
We now specialise in installing windows without the need for scaffolding in blocks of flats. We have a safe methodology to do this, which has been approved by our safety consultant.
We can reproduce your horizontal bars using astragal bars which consist of duplex bars in between the glass and plant on bars on the inside of the inside pane and the outside of the outside pane. They create the illusion of separate panes, but in reality they are not!
We recommend going out or being away while we are installing your new stepped look windows so that we can keep disruption to a minimum. We will make good any damage to plaster work up to decorating standard.
You will need to check with the local planners, which we can help with but the chances are likely that it will be allowed, depending on your product choice, which we can assist with.
